Interview About A Young Homosexual Man From Raleigh, North...

For my theory application assignment I chose to interview a young homosexual man from Raleigh, North Carolina. The reason I selected this particular individual is my desire to understand their population more. As a future social worker, I realize that I need to be able to help people from diverse backgrounds other than my own. Social work is a public trust, and the practice of social work in the public arena requires a clear distinction between one’s personal moral concerns and the social work values of client determination and respect for diversity. (Hancock, 2008, pg.262) I called my client asking if I could interview him for the assignment he said he would be glad to help me with whatever I needed. We both agreed a partial telephone interview then email interview would work best since our schedules were conflicted in meeting in person. Throughout my assessment I will explain how my client has handled oppression and discrimination as well as how the concepts of several the ories can be applied to his life. The first perspective I used to assess my client was the strengths perspective. This orientation focuses on client resources, capabilities, knowledge, abilities, motivations, experiences, intelligence, and other positive qualities that can be put to use to solve problems and pursue positive changes. (Zastrow, 2013, pg.13) If I had to describe my client these are a few of the words I would use: stoic, determined, rugged, hardworking, and he is honest as a judge.
